Yadavas Senayan CC pip WPP India XI on the back of great performances by Chetan & Gamantika and despite a super-human knock by Pallav Malhotra

JCA League News, Senayan CC, Texmoda JCA League, WPP India XI

But his dismissal, got together the Singapore captain, Chetan Suryawanshi & the Indonesian captain, Gamantika Kadek who counter-attacked well and ensured Yadavas Senayan CC put up a big score of 168 in their 20 overs. Though, they took wickets regularly, the WPP India XI bowlers couldn’t keep the runs in check.

The second innings then saw one of the best, fighting knocks in the JCA League as Pallav Malhotra strode like a Phoenix among the ashes. As he kept losing partners at the other end, Pallav waited patiently, for the right moment to explode. Needing 80 to win off the last 5 overs, he felt the time was right to test the size of the GMIS ground, hitting sixes at will and scoring 66 runs in 4 overs. Tragically, too much was needed of the last over, and a great knock went in vain.

JCA Challengers CC, GMIS CC, League News, Texmoda JCA League

Tight bowling by the GMIS CC opening bowlers Mohammad Imran & Karan Tiwari had Challengers CC in trouble early in their innings after they were put in to bat. GMIS CC would have been the happier team when they had sent half the opposition batting back to pavilion for just 38 runs at the half-way stage. Vimal Nair & Satinder Singh, then, put on a fantastic run-a-ball partnership that rescued Challengers and took them to a fighting 118 after 20 overs.

GMIS CC would have felt comfortable in their chase as they got off to a decent start with Naresh Gupta showing some of his form from last season. The loss of Naresh & the entry of Chander Pandey however, changed the tide of the game. In one of the best spells of the league so far, Chander Pandey took 2 wickets for just 4 runs in 4 overs in a match-winning performance. He then showed his mettle with the keepers gloves in the field with 2 catches & a stumping. WPP India XI would have rued their decision to bat first, as the Jakarta Barbarians opening bowlers left their mark very early in the innings. Vivek Nair squeezed out the batting with a tight spell leading to Muhammad Mehdi, benefiting with wickets at the other end. Much like the Indian team in the Pune test, no batsman in WPP India XI, could put up any resistance and wickets fell regularly as all the JB bowlers kept the pressure going. WPP India XI was bowled out for a paltry 84 runs with more than 10 overs to spare.

A couple of early wickets by the wily Kishore Gunwani, would have given WPP India XI some hope of a fightback, but sensible batting by the ever-reliable Ben Burgess, ensured Jakarta Barbarians got home with plenty of wickets & overs to spare. This upset win by Jakarta Barbarians, opened up the already tight race for Division 1 honors.

Despite losing their openers early, the Royals were well in control of the chase as Rakshan Rai once again played a big knock to take his team home to a big win.

Ajeet Bhatt carries both his bat & his team, GMIS CC to a good win over Indorama CC in their game on 19th February

JCA GMIS CC, Indorama CC, League News, Texmoda JCA League

After being put into bat, GMIS CC had to rely on a solid & responsible knock from Ajeet Bhatt who almost carried his bat and was the last batsman to fall. Abhishek Sharma in the company of the experienced Srikkanth, kept pegging away with wickets at the other end. The only support Ajeet got was from Ishan who stayed long enough to put on more than 60 runs in their crucial partnership. Ashish Khaitan chipped in with a couple of wickets to help restrict GMIS CC to a par score of 156 in their 35 overs.

In reply, Indorama CC started off reasonably well, though they were restricted in their scoring by a miserly spell from Mohammad Imran. The slow bowling pair of Jalaj Chaturvedi & Diwakar Mohan then, combined well to cause a middle-order collapse and Indorama CC were in real trouble at 101 for 8. Ashish Khaitan, who is having a very good season, then put on a brave fightback with a 37 run stand for the 9th wicket which had GMIS sweating. However, his other partners didn’t last long and Indorama CC were bowled out 13 runs short.

The fall of Rajeev, created a big flutter and WISCI needed 5 to win of the last over. Vishal Garg, created panic as he took 2 wickets and it needed a boundary from the 5th ball from the cool, Bob Plath to salvage WISCI a win.

Pallav Malhotra’s fabulous ton makes the Curry too hot for the Australian XI as they lose to the Indian XI in the Kangaroo-Curry cup 2017

JCA League News

Rain was threatening to wash out the game as the Indian XI chose to bat first against the Australian XI in the 2017 edition of the Annual Kangaroo-Curry cup played at the Cibubur cricket ground on Saturday. The Aussies soon encountered a much bigger threat as Pallav Malhotra, decided to take his new 20-grain bat for a spin. The other opener, Harish Tiwari didnt even get to face a ball for 3 overs as Pallav laid into the Aussie attack. Harish went early, caught in front while shuffling. William decided to de-risk the other end as Gordon Jones (1/29) brought back some control.

Pallav at the other end, blazed away with some fabulous off-side strokeplay, reaching his hundred in just the 15th over of the innings. Ben Corbett finally got him out when he mistimed a pull, a rare occurence on a day when he hit 14 fours and 6 Sixes to get 115 in just 65 balls and in the process, give his new bat a really good knocking-in.

Kirubasankar (35 of 16 balls) & Arun Rajain (18 of 8 balls) hit a few more sixes as the Indian XI ended up with 213 for 3 wickets in their 20 overs. The curry had been cooked and one had to wait and see if it was Spicy enough for the Aussies.

Ben Burgess (18), got going early on but wickets to Harish Tiwari at the other end and score-board pressure made Ben tickle a feather to William Noronha off the bowling of Jagdeep Singh. Bob Plath couldnt hit the fence, but kept the score ticking over with singles, when heavy rain rain interrupted play. The clouds relented, but the Indian bowling didnt as David Surjit got a couple more wickets to have the Aussies in further trouble.

Another heavy downpour & a wet pitch forced play to be called off with the Aussie XI at 92/6 after 12 overs needing another 121 runs with just 8 overs left. India XI won the game on a better run-rate, thus retaining the Kangaroo-Curry cup.

Singapore Recreation Club & WPP India XI joint winners of Tata Motors Jakarta International 6s cricket tournament 2016

JCA League News

This weekend witnessed an exciting see-saw battle not only between the 10 teams, but also between the elements and the organizers as torrential rain threatened the 20th edition of the Tata Motors Jakarta International 6s cricket tournament played at the Cibubur Cricket Ground.

Ten teams including 3 foreign teams from Singapore & Malaysia faced off in cricket’s most entertaining format, the 6s. Despite heavy over-night rains, the tournament kicked-off on schedule on Saturday morning thanks to the efforts of the Ground coordinators. Consistency of performance was key to making it to the top & the best teams demonstrated that in good measure. The introduction of the Tata Motors Double Mileage over, brought in not only new excitement, but also the need for some astute captaincy.

The young Indonesian team of Yadavas Chairos Tigers surprised & delighted everyone by their wonderful all-round performance losing only 1 game, which too was a rain-shortened one. The stars for them were Ahmad Ramdoni, the 2nd best batsman of the tournament, Agi Saptiazi, one of the most economical bowlers of the tournament, Muhaddis who shone with his classical leg-spin & their talismanic captain I Kadek Gamantika with his all-round performance. They were looking well placed to fight for a spot in the finals, but rain & the need to leave to Malaysia for their national team tour, put paid those ambitions.

In Pool A, both the Singapore teams, with a bevy of former & current Singapore national team players, looked unbeatable. Anuj Behl, the tournament’s most economical bowler (just 9 runs of 4 overs) was Singapore Recreation Club’s best bowler and played a huge part in their dominant display (the only unbeaten team in the tournament) and run to becoming the joint winners.

The current trophy holders Selular Lions on the other hand, had many stars. Vijay Babu (the Overall MVP of the tournament) & Surendar Chandramohan (Best Batsman of the tournament) along with the classical Rakshan Rai, starred in their performance. But losses in two key games hurt their performance & prevented them from making it to the finals.

The ANTV powered WPP India XI team, were brilliant in their consistency which depended on a solid team performance, where everyone chipped in at crucial moments. His ability to take wickets earned Gaurav Pathak the Best Bowler of the tournament while Rahul Pagad, bludgeoned his way to the award for highest number of 6s in the tournament. Their skipper, Pallav Malhotra & opener Arun Ranjain, were the other stars of a complete team-effort.

In a tournament, where spinners, especially leg-spinners, performed well, Corbon Loughnan also shone, albeit in a losing cause to be the 2nd best bowler. The tournament saw a huge, 83 sixes being hit and 8 maiden overs being bowled. The introduction of the innovative double mileage over saw 1 over going for 54 runs, a rare occurrence in cricket. The tournament also witnessed 3 bowl-outs as rain impacted a few games.

Singapore Recreation Club (SRC) & Selular Lions topped Pool A while WPP India XI & Yadavas Chairos Tigers topped Pool B. SRC romped through to the finals to face WPP India XI after Selular Lions had been knocked out & the Tigers had to leave for national duty to Malaysia in the double eliminator. Heavy rain, however, played spoil-sport and since no further play was possible, SRC & WPP India XI were declared joint tournament winners. Ceylon CC & Jaguar CC were jointly awarded the Plate trophy.

“Inspite of all the heavy rains around, we were delighted to get so many games. Testament to the hard-work put in by the JCA committee members and the spirit shown by the teams” said a visibly relieved JCA President, Avakash Lohia.

Bowlers dominate this weekend’s action in the Texmoda JCA League, including a 2nd hat-trick of the season for Keyur Moradia

JCA League News, Texmoda JCA League

The Indonesian youngsters of Yadavas Chairos Tigers beat Mavecrics CC by 4 wickets in a low-scorer. Mavecrics were off to a decent start but some tight bowling coupled with very good fielding & catching restricted the scoring & Mavecrics who are struggling for batting form, folded up for a low 105 runs. Sanjeev Modi (19) was the top scorer. The young Aditya Gustama (4/11) & his coach Nando Fernandes (4/13) were the pick of the bowlers. The Tigers started well with Yeri Rosongna (27) & Aditya Gustama (54no) putting together 61 runs and were coasting, till Yeri fell. The Mavecrics captain Keyur Moradia (5/29) who is in tremendous bowling form, then had the Tigers in all sorts of strife with a 4 wicket over, which also got him his 2nd hat-trick of the tournament. The young Aditya Gustama then stepped-up, demonstrating a lot of maturity to take his side home in the 21st over.

In a low scoring encounter at Purwakarta, Jakarta Barbarians beat Menara CC by 35 runs in a 35 overs game. Both sides have been struggling to get their batting sorted, and after electing to bat first, the Barbarians decided to spend time in the middle. They lasted 32 overs but could only manage 92 runs. Amit Bhat (6/19) did the main damage bowling his off-spinners. Tim Gutsell (46) fought hard and was the last man out. Menara, possibly the happier team at the break, were rocked hard in their chase when Desandri Saputra took 2 wickets in the very first over including that of Harish Tiwari. At 47/3 in 11 overs, Menara seemed to have recovered, but some rash shots & a 3 wicket over from Vivek Nair (4/15) had them down for the count. Muhammad Mehdi (3/13) then knocked them over for a paltry 57.

The top of the table clash between Yadavas Senayan CC & WPP India XI lived up to its promise of a close game, with WPP India XI prevailing by 2 wickets. Viraj Bhammar (75) had to glue the Senayan innings together as wickets kept tumbling at the other end. Haider Ali & Viraj were going well together till Haider had to retire out. Pallav Malhotra (3/19) bowled brilliantly to account for the danger men Gamantika & Chetan. Deepak Sarika (2/31) was the other successful bowler. In reply, WPP India XI batsmen, especially Ajay Kurtkoti (32) & Santosh Kumar (30) anchored partnerships with some assistance from skipper Pallav Malhotra (21) to help their team scamper across the target with 2 wickets in hand. Raj Kapadia (2/29) & Anjar Tadarus (2/31) were the main wicket takers.

Emerio CC extended their unbeaten run with a win over the struggling Fez Rebels CC in their T20 game. Rebels chose to bat first but couldn’t get going at all as the Emerio CC bowlers strangled them with tight bowling. The opening bowlers David Surjit & Maneesh Dubey both took 2 wickets apiece for just 17 runs and Sujay Saha was even more frugal giving only 8 runs. Christian Hirst top-scored with 31 runs. In reply Emerio CC was in all sorts of strife at 26/5, but the belligerence of Maneesh Dubey (45no) & support from both Biji Matthew (20no) & five dropped catches, ensured Emerio CC got to the target without any further loss.

Naresh Gupta (26) along with Mohit Hot’form’chandani (36) were the main contributors as GMIS CC clocked up a par-score of 129 in 20 overs. Abhishek Sharma (2/21) & Sandeep Kukkar (2/16) were the best Indorama bowlers. The opening bowlers Imran & Karan Tiwari put a tight squeeze on Indorama scoring for the spinners Jalaj (2/20) to capitalize on. Jakarta Barbarians and WISCI managed to get a reduced game of 13 overs a side as the ground conditions improved. Once again, Ben Burgess (58no) carried his bat but didn’t get support from the other end as Jakarta Barbarians finished at 93 for 5 in 13 overs. Gaurav Tiwari (2/14) was the pick of the bowlers. Rajeev Rajeswaran’s quick-fire, unbeaten, 50 ensured WISCI raced to the target with 9 wickets & more than 3 overs to spare.

Gamantika & Chetan Suryawanshi help Yadavas Senayan CC beat WISCI Wanderers in the marquee, top of the table clash at Cibubur on Saturday

JCA League News, Senayan CC, Texmoda JCA League, WISCI Wanderers

The game between last season’s toppers, Yadavas Senayan CC & WISCI Wanderers had all the makings of a marquee clash and the presence of strong players from Singapore & Bali in both the teams, took up the expectations even further. The match also provided a great opportunity for the best of young Indonesian cricketing talent to learn from the best of Singapore & Jakarta in the cauldron of a high-stakes, exciting real-match situation.

Inspite of being sent in to bat on wet ground, Senayan CC clearly were in the mood for some attacking cricket. Even after the 19-year-old Bali quick, Darma Arta (3/59), got rid of Muhaddis in his first over, Kadek Gamantika (55) put on fast-paced partnerships, first with Viraj Bhammar (25) & then, a huge one with the Singapore captain, Chetan Suryawanshi (81) to take YSCC to hundred within 11 overs. However, Gaurav Tiwari got rid of the dangerous Gamantika & two quick run-outs followed, to slow YSCC down.

The free flowing boundaries stopped & Chetan Suryawanshi then had to shepherd the innings through smart cricket & partnerships with the young Indonesian national players Anjar Tadarus & Ahmad Ramdoni (28). Both of the youngsters would have benefited a lot from the time out in the middle & learning from the hugely experienced Chetan. YSCC were eventually bowled out for 256 with 11 balls to go, a daunting score on a wet, overcast day.

YSCC started the bowling with Raj Kapadia (2/35) and Chetan Suryawanshi (1/21), bowling tight lines & making it difficult for the WISCI openers to score freely. WISCI could only manage 42 at 12 overs break with both their openers back to the comfort of the new pavilion at Cibubur. With the asking rate steadily climbing, WISCI needed to up their run rate. Suhail Modak was stuck halfway down the pitch trying to take a quick single. In walked Gaurav Tiwari fresh from a blazing century in his previous game the previous week, but he fell to the guiles of the wily Ashit Mehta driving a slow one into the hands of the cover fielder.

The score 76 for 4 in 17 overs was beginning to worry the WISCI batting line up, but, the Singaporean national player, Surendar Chandramohan (73) went after the spinners, clobbering 52 runs off the 4 overs bowled by the spinners. Prem Subramanian (2/22) then broke the partnership, first by getting Rajeev Rajeswaran caught at short-fine-leg and then a direct throw catching Surendar short of the crease and in many ways, breaking the back of the WISCI chase. Dave Holmes fighting knock of 44 went in vain as wickets kept falling at regular intervals on the other side. WISCI were bowled out for 202 handing YSCC a 54 run win.

Gaurav Tiwari is the Player of the Week in a week that saw WPP India XI, WISCI Wanderers, Emerio CC & Indorama CC register wins

JCA League News, Texmoda JCA League

A full-strength WISCI Wanderers chose to bat first against the recently promoted Metro Indians in the 35 over encounter at the Cibubur Ground. Some wayward bowling (26 wides) and a Gaurav Tiwari blitzkrieg (120 of just 73 balls) saw WISCI get off to a flyer. When Govind Sodani (21) got out, the score was a healthy 60 of just 8 overs. Gaurav, who is working hard on his planks & head-stands, was blanking out the bowling and virtually carrying the innings on his, now-stronger than ever shoulders. Sakthi Narayanan (3/20) bowled very well and even managed 2 maiden overs amidst all this onslaught. When Anthony John (3/53) finally got Gaurav caught behind, WISCI was still looking a huge score. However, the last 5 wickets fell for just 40 runs leaving Metro Indians to chase 236 to win.

The thrifty David Holme, helped Deepak Singh (3/45) at the other end, pick up wickets regularly, and when he got rid of the dangerous Kirubasankar cheaply, the match was virtually over. Govind Sodani (2/11) unraveled the middle order and Gaurav Tiwari (2/10) wrapped up the tail to give the current holders a big win. Prabhukaliraj (23) & Sabu Joy (19) were the only scorers of substance for Metro Indians.

Fez Rebels travelled to Purwakarta to take on the home team Indorama CC in the second 35 over game of the weekend. When Warwick Peters (53) & Corbon Loughnan (48) put on a 98 run partnership for the opening wicket, memories of their 225 run unbeaten partnership in the season opener last year, were revived. Ashish Khaitan (3/30) beat Corbon in the air to have him playing on & setting in motion, a very familiar Fez Rebels middle order collapse. The young Rohan Rajpal (4/3) then came on to make a mess of the tail and Fez Rebels folded up on 135, losing 10 wickets for just 37 runs.

In reply, Fez Rebels thought they had a chance, when Corbon Loughnan (2/19) & Steve Barber (1/33) took a few early wickets. But a calculated counter-attacking reply, first by the experienced R. Srikkanth (18) & later by man of the match, Abhishek Sharma (41), ensured that Indorama CC won comfortably with 5 wickets and more than 14 overs to spare & also enabled an early return back to Jakarta for Fez Rebels.

Challengers CC gambit to open with a spinner failed as Dilip Udayshankar (54) went on a rampage, especially picking on Vimal Nair. Satheesh Kumar (2/24) fought back with a few wickets and when Manickavasagan (2/22) & Satinder Minhas (2/29) got rid of the middle order, Emerio CC was looking in some trouble. The ever reliable pair of Maneesh Dubey (44no) & Karthigai (18no) then put on an unbeaten 53 run partnership to guide Emerio CC to a strong 142/7 in 20 overs. A tight opening spell by David Surjit & a penetrative spell by Sujoy Saha (3/17) with help from Maneesh Dubey (2/27) ensured that Challengers CC never looked in the hunt, despite good knocks by Sidhu (23) & Satinder Minhas (26no).

WPP India XI’s experienced duo of Kishore Gunwani (2/17) & Dhiraj Nagpal (1/12) kept things very tight & when Jakarta Barbarians wanted to increase the scoring rate, wickets fell regularly to Gaurang (2/32) & others. Ben Burgess (53no) carried his bat through the innings, but received support only from Vivek Nair (23). So, tight bowling had ensured that Jakarta Barbarians could only manage 116/7 in their 20 overs. Rahul Pagad (58) & Ajay Kurtkoti (32) then put on a 93 run stand in quick time to take WPP India XI comfortably home with 7 wickets & 5 overs to spare.

WPP India XI were put in to bat by PHM Jaguar CC in the last game of the day. Dwaraknath Naidu (32) took a liking to Sasikumar and helped provide WPP India XI a good start. Sasi fought back with the wickets of the openers and the speed of Jagdeep Singh (2/18) coupled with the slow, guile of Amit Lala (3/19) ensured that WPP India XI ended up on a below-par 124/9 in their 20 overs. The experienced & wily Dhiraj Nagpal (3/18) struck early to get rid of the openers. Amit (19) & Vijay (29) consolidated for the Jaguars, but Deepak Sarika (2/24) & Pankaj Jain (2/18) broke through & Dhiraj came back to close it out in the 19th over to take his team to a 14 run win. “Jaguars are a very strong side & our bowlers needed to come good to defend a difficult total. David Surjit & Karthigai Deepan fight hard to help Emerio CC win a low-scoring thriller against GMIS CC at Cibubur Grounds

JCA Emerio CC, GMIS CC, League News, Texmoda JCA League

Match Write-up Courtesy: Emerio CC

The Div 2 match between Emerio CC and GMIS CC was a testament to the fact that low scoring games can still be humdingers.

A cracker of a contest was expected at the recently relegated teams from Div 1 were clashing at Cibubur under overcast conditions and the outfield covered in dew. A bold GMIS CC opted to bat hoping to put a score and defend as both teams had not done well chasing in the past. As with umpteenth time, Emerio started well with the new ball keeping things tight that resulted in GMIS opener, Karan Tiwari, losing his wicket without scoring in the 5th over. Emerio kept up the pressure leading to wickets falling regularly while the other opener, Ajeet Bhatt (35 off 46 balls) kept ticking at the other end. David Surjit (4-21 in 7 overs) was in particular almost unplayable while Maneesh, Karthik and Anji were very disciplined and supported him admirably. The introduction of Harish Vaidyanathan (2-16 in 3 overs) immediately fetched the wicket of Ajeet and giving Emerio an opportunity to get GMIS CC all out for less than 100. However, Diwakar Mohan (18 off 24 balls), Ishan and Mohammad Imran helped GMIS reach 100. But Karthik (2-16 in 6 overs) and Dilip ensured Emerio did not have to wait longer by cleaning up the remaining batsman as GMIS CC’s innings was wrapped up at 109 in 31.3 overs.

Emerio must have fancied their chances at the halfway mark to win without hassles but that wasn’t to be. Their innings started with Dilip hoisting a 6 in the first over to get things moving. But things took a wild turn as he was drawn into pushing at a ball close to the body by Karan Tiwari which was taken easily by the keeper. The next batsman, Nitin, was unlucky to face the delivery of the match where the ball came back from a good lengh to take the top of his Off stump and peg back Emerio at 8-2. Karan’s threat was neutralized for a brief while by Palwinder Singh (19 off 20 balls) and Manikandan who ensured to keep the innings moving along. However, Karan roared back by dismissing Manikandan, Maneesh and Varun in a space of 3 overs thus ending with match figures of 5-21 in 7 overs. Maulik Trivedi (2-25 in 7 overs) ably supported Karan and the duo caused Emerio to slide from 43-2 to 50-7. Staring at defeat, old heads David and Anji played safe cricket and moved the score to 78. But GMIS captain Naresh introduced himself into the bowling attack and dismissed his opposite number getting the game back in GMIS’s favour. David and Karthik kept ticking the score along to 93 but Mohammad Imran came back to remove David (22 off 44 balls) while Emerio reeled to 93-9. Karthik played a gem of an innings with gorgeous looking drives and Harish maintained his composure as the final wicket pair snatched victory from the jaws of defeat against a spirited effort from GMIS. Karthik finished with 15*. MOM was shared between David and Karthik.

Gamantika & Andriani the stars, of a great show put-on by young Indonesian cricketers at the PON Games in Bandung.

JCA League News

Cricket shone brightly in its historic debut at the PON Games in Jawa Barat. More than 200 young Indonesian players, many of whom had not even heard of Cricket till 2 years back, made Bandung sit-up and take notice as they demonstrated not only excellent team-spirit, but also a knowledge, keen-ness & grasp of the game that far belied their age & limited exposure.

Bali Putras, who benefited a lot from playing together regularly in the Bali League, won both the Super 8s & T20 gold medals, by showing demonstrating greater mental strength to win the key moments in big games. Their captain, I Kadek Gamantika, a long-term TIMNAS player, led sterlingly by example and emerged the Putra MVP of the tournament. Having had a relatively weak, batting performance through the fortnight, he was keen & pumped-up to make a difference in the T20 finals. And perform he did.

He lit up the Siliwangi stadium, with a fantastic 102 not out of just 51 balls. Many of the School kids, police-men & TNI personnel present at the stadium were treated to a fire-works display which included 7 fours & 7 sixes. Gamantika surely would have made his cricketing idol, Ricky Ponting, proud, as he raced to his ton with two 6s of the last two balls of the innings being bowled by the most economical bowler of the tournament, Desandri Candil Saputra. Gamantika also emerged as the highest wicket-taker of the tournament.

Muhammad Anjar Tadarus from Jawa Barat emerged as the Best Batsman of the tournament and though he fought valiantly in the finals, it wasn’t enough to get his team home to a win on that day. Some other stars among that emerged among the Putras were Rizky Tri Tubbi & Agi Saptiaza from DKI Jakarta, I Gede Dewa Putra Kisawa from Bali, Muhaddis from Jawa Barat & Presley Arron Manaha from NTT.

DKI Jakarta took home both the gold medals in the Putri competition. While Puji Haryanti & Annisa Sulistianingsih were their best performers, their success was characterized by an all-round team effort, and their energy & passion shown as a team was truly commendable. Although, her team didn’t go on to win a gold medal, Andriani from Jawa Barat stood out for her all-round consistency & emerged as the MVP among the Putris. Andriani, who had the unique distinction of playing for the Indonesian U15 boys team in the ICC EAP tournament in 2008 & also being selected for the All-stars team of the tournament, emerged as the highest scorer (198 runs) & also bowled well to take 9 wickets. Putu Sri Apridayanti emerged as the best Bowler. Some other notable performances included Ni Kadek Fitria Rada Rani from Bali, Tri Wardani Hamid from Sulsel & Yong Kartini from Kalimantan Timur.

The tournament was also characterized by its very professional organization including the use of International umpires, Live & transparent Internet scoring and smooth overall conduct. A lot of the credit for this goes to Prakash Vijaykumar, who as the Technical head, brought his years of organizational experience & expertise to bear to ensure a fair & smooth conduct. Special credit also to Corbon Loughnan for the huge time & effort he invested in getting all the games to be live-scored by young Indonesian girls on CricHQ.

“The power of sport in fostering Unity in diversity was very evident in the spirit & energy shown by the cricketers at PON games. All the hard work being put in for more than 15 years by Cricket Indonesia has finally borne fruit & today, Cricket has emerged as a major alternative sport that not only binds the diverse youth of Indonesia, but also provides a new platform to accelerate future success”, said, a visibly delighted Abhiram Singh Yadav, the Vice Chairman of PCI and a key driver of the success of cricket at the PON Games.

“The quality of cricket at display here, further motivates us to strive for more success both at SEA games & the Asian Games. We are committed to starting a National league next year” said Dr. Aziz Syamsuddin, the President of PCI.

Neeraj Chaddha & Rakesh Gowda bat TKCC Royals to a hard-fought win over Metro Indians in a tight game at GMIS grounds

Metro Indians took on TKCC Royals in the first of the two T20s. In what has now become a very predictable pattern, Kirubasankar (73 not out) once again was the batting star as he & Sabu Joy (44) took Metro Indians to a seemingly comfortable 163/3 in 20 overs. In hind-sight, maybe they should have looked for quicker runs, especially with so many wickets in hand. Neeraj Chaddha (64) who, on his day can be un-stoppable, was having one of those days, as he got TKCC off to a brisk start and his team was comfortably placed after 6 overs. Ashwin (3/30) & Venkat (2/46) then put the cat among the pigeons and triggered a mini-collapse. Rakesh Gowda (46), had to ensure he guided his team across the line with only 2 wickets in hand.

Samir Sharma (35) & Ishan Gambhir (23) then, put on a 73 run partnership to bring some respectability as the Mavecrics were bowled out for 127 in 33 overs. Low targets have a way of confusing the chasing side and Challengers CC quickly realized this as Keyur Moradia (a fantastic 5/29) had them in trouble at 41/5. Debutant, Chander Pandey (45), then, probably inspired by Chulbul Pandey, played a Dabangg knock and he along with Satinder Minhas (34) blitzed Challengers CC out of trouble and steered the team to a 3 wicket win with more than 15 overs left.

Kirubasankar shines once again with both bat & ball to take Metro Indians to their first win in Division 1 in a close game versus WPP India XI

A huge 3rd wicket partnership of 90 runs between Kiruba Sankar (59) and Dhanasekar R (42) helped Metro Indians revive after the loss of 2 early wickets. Metro needed to capitalize on this platform, but, Pankaj Jain (4/26) got rid of both these batsmen in quick succession and the remaining batsmen couldn’t contribute much. Metro Indians finished up at a par score of 173/7 in their 35 overs. In reply, Rahul Pagad (21) started off in a hurry, going after the bowlers. Kiruba Sankar (4/30) then pegged WPP India XI back by sending both the openers back. Pallav Malhotra (41) then batted sensibly to take the team to a strong position of 100/3 in the 20th over. Sakthi Narayanan (3/33) then too 3 wickets to bring Metro back into the game. Things went down to the wire & WPP needed 9 to win of 4 overs but with only 2 wickets in hand. Kiruba, in his last over, then cleaned up the 2 wickets to lead his team to a 5 run win & get himself yet another Man of the match award.

Emerio CC would have immediately regretted their decision to bat first on a slow, grassy & damp outfield as they lost their opener in the 3rd over. Palwinder & Nitin stabilized the innings with a brief partnership. But the introduction of spin in the form of Ashish Khaitan (2/25) sparked a collapse as he along with Abhishek Sharma (2/23) & Sandeep Kakkar (4/34) ripped the heart out of Emerio CC’s middle-order and had them in deep trouble at 76/8. The entry of Emerio CC’s star of the day, Justin Matthew (34) & his attacking, 41run partnership with skipper Anjaneyulu Katta ensured Emerio CC bowlers had some runs to fight with as they finished at 117 all out in 25.3 overs.

Indorama CC, the happier side at the break, started cautiously fending off a probing opening spell. But, Maneesh Dubey (2/20) got Shailesh caught behind (one of the 6 catches taken by the keeper, Nitin Gupta) & bowled Vinod (13). Indorama kept losing wickets regularly, thereafter & once Karthik (2/27) accounted for the veterans Srikkanth & Vishwajit, things were looking ominous. The last wicket put on a fighting 21 runs, but Sujoy got rid of Sudhir to calm some tense nerves and take Emerio CC to their first win. “It was good to prevail winners in a low-scorer” said Anji, Emerio’s captain.

Stalwarts Dihan & Gaurav Kapoor guide Ceylon CC to a comfortable win over GMIS CC

JCA Ceylon CC, GMIS CC, League News, Texmoda JCA League

In the 2nd game, a T20 game, GMIS CC would have been pleased with having decided to bowl first when they had both the Ceylon openers back in the hut for just 15 runs and Mohammad Imran (1/16) was keeping it very tight. But this was going to be a day for the Ceylon stalwarts, and Dihan Silva (39) started it off by going after the bowlers. Karan Tiwari (2/34) got rid of Dihan & Maulik Trivedi (2/20) got Baba & Rajeev to lead a GMIS fightback. The second Ceylon stalwart, Gaurav Kapoor (46 not out in 32 balls), then stepped in, and it was his turn to scythe the attack and drive Ceylon CC to finish at a competitive 154/6 in their 20 overs.

Karan Tiwari (37) was holding up one end while wickets were falling at the other end. But the innings needed some impetus and the hopes were high when Naresh, the Gaylestorm walked in to bat. But the canny Dihan Silva had other ideas as he first, outsmarted Naresh, who holed out for a duck, and then, ran out Karan Tiwari, dealing a double-blow. Diwakar Mohan (41) fought valiantly, but just didn’t get enough support from the other end. The Ceylon opening bowlers Das (2/27) & Sachit (2/19) returned to ensure GMIS CC could only manage 141/9 falling 13 runs short. “Happy to find some good form at the start of the league” said Gaurav, the man of the match.

Kiruba, Viraj & William power Victorious Secret to win the JCA T20 Tournament 2016 after a huge win over Jaguar CC at GMIS grounds on Sunday

JCA Jaguar CC, JCA T20, League News

Victorious Secret capped their dominant season performance off with a comprehensive 46 run win over Jaguar CC to take home the JCA T20 2016 trophy.

Saturday’s heavy rains & flooding across many part of Jakarta, meant that the Sunday started with many anxious eyes on the weather forecast for the day. This also meant the toss was going to be crucial. Jaguar CC won the toss and chose to field first.

The opening bowlers, Aman Singh & Dhimanshu started well with the first 4 overs going just for 17 runs. After this cautious start, the batsmen Viraj Bhammar (57) & William Noronha (35) decided to step on the accelerator and went after the 3rd overs of both the opening bowlers, taking 34 runs off the 5th & 6th overs. With the run-rate back on track, both the batsmen found their rhythm and put together a match-winning partnership of 88 runs.

William, eventually fell in the 10th over, plumb in front, after having missed a tempter from Marten Eddy. With 88 runs in the first 10 overs, Victorious Secret were off to a great start and looked set to post a big total. Enter, Jagdeep Singh, who, has made a habit of changing the course of games. He claimed the big wicket of Viraj Bhammar in his 2nd over and bowled an excellent spell of 2/16 off his 4 overs. However, he didn’t get much support from the other end as the slower bowlers went for plenty. A subdued Kirubasankar (47), played a very good hand and held the innings together while a few wickets fell at the other end. Despite a tight last 3 overs, Victorious Secret would have been the happier side going into the break having made 163/6 in their 20 overs.

The Jaguar CC reply began disastrously as they lost a wicket in each of the first 5 overs and crumbled to 32/5. Desandri Candil Saputra (3/30), easily the most promising Indonesian young player, struck a great rhythm and swung the ball late to rattle the batsmen. His wicket of Malik Thariani, bowled round-the-legs was a special treat to watch. David Surjit (2/29) also bowled well from the other end & accounted for the dangerous Dhimanshu.

Kirubasankar (0/11 off 4 overs) then bowled a few tight overs to ensure that Jaguar never had a chance of getting to the target. Marten Eddy (24) & Ansar Subramanian (29) put on a few runs, but by that stage, they were batting more for pride than a win. They played out the overs to finish at 117/9 in their 20 overs.

William Noronha, who is now the most successful captain in JCA history was delighted with his team’s win. “Iam very happy that everyone in the team contributed when it mattered & it was this team-performance that helped us win the tournament” he said.

“A bit disappointed that things didn’t go our way today, but we are very happy with the way we performed in this tournament” said the disappointed Jaguar CC captain Anwar Pasha.

Kirubasankar was named the Man of the Match of the finals for his superb all-round act, including a fabulous catch on the boundary.

“The T-20 tournament started as an off-season filler, but has now become a very keenly contested fixture in JCA. Congrats to the winners and all the other teams as well for the passion & interest shown” said Avakash Lohia, President, JCA.

Jagdeep Singh helps Jaguar CC win the key moments as they overcome TKCC Royals in a thriller to move into the JCA T20 2016 finals

JCA Jaguar CC, JCA T20, League News, TKCC

In a game that see-sawed right upto the last ball, Jaguar CC held their nerves to beat the current T20 cup holders, TKCC Royals by 1 run and scamper into the T20 finals where they take on Victorious Secret.

The teams had different paths to the semis. Jaguar CC, who cruised through the qualifying stages, had been struggling for batting form in the last few games. TKCC Royals, on the other hand, had momentum on their side, having won their last few games comprehensively. Hence, today’s contest had all the promise of a closely-fought encounter, and the teams didn’t disappoint.

Aman Singh (27) got the Jaguars off to a brisk start with 11 off the first over. TKCC fought back with the wicket of an under-pressure Corbon. Dhimanshu (23) then pushed on the run-pedal as he took 22 runs of Mukesh’s 2nd over. But, Aresh, then took out the dangerous Dhimanshu in the 5th over to bring the Royals right back as the see-saw nature of the game continued. Swaroop Chawan (0-16 off 4 overs) then bowled a tight spell to keep Jaguars quiet for the next 5 overs.

Maneesh Tripathi (5/25), the highest wicket taker of the tournament, then worked his magic once again with a Double-wicket start to his spell and the Jaguar CC were in some trouble at 83/4 after 12 overs. Ansar Subramaniam (27) then, went after the bowling to swing things back, Jaguar’s way. Maneesh fought back with another 2 wicket over and Jaguars were in real danger of falling well short. Jagdeep’s (13) runs ensured that his team had something to fight with as Jaguar CC were bowled out for 139 with 5 balls to spare.

TKCC Royals the happier team at the break, then got off to a cautious start until captain Mukesh Khetan (31) & Pallav Malhotra (39) the top run scorer of the tournament, then decided to up the ante and were especially severe on the leggie, Rehan. At the half-way mark, the game was still in the balance with Jaguar CC on 73/2. The 11th over once again proved to be a game-changer, with Jagdeep Singh (4/16) bowling a brilliant double-wicket, maiden over including the key wicket of Mukesh.

Pallav & Maneesh (22) then got together and put on a sensible 40 run partnership and things were looking in control for them until Ansar took out Pallav in the 17th over. TKCC had to get 26 runs in 3 overs with Rehan (the leggie) still to bowl 2 overs. The 18th over went for 12 runs & TKCC clearly looked in front. Jagdeep then came back to bowl a fabulous 19th over where he took 2 wickets for just 2 runs.  12 runs were needed off the last over. When Suren, hit the 3rd ball for a six, the Royals had the upper-edge. A run-out of the 5th ball, and still 3 runs needed of the last ball. Gaurang couldn’t get the ball away and TKCC fell short of the win by 2 runs.

Baba Sivasankaran (50) & Satheesh (4/18) lead Ceylon Cavaliers to a consolation win over Victorious Secret

JCA Ceylon CC, JCA T20, League News

The last weekend of the JCA T20 league-stage saw two comfortable wins. In the 1st game, Ceylon Cavaliers upset pool leaders Victorious Secret to end with a consolation win. TKCC Royals comprehensively beat Menara Devils in the 2nd game to become the 4th & final team to enter the play-offs

Ceylon Warriors who were playing for pride, won the toss & chose to bat first against a below-strength Victorious Secret team. Ceylon was under pressure early on when they lost their openers within the first 3 overs. Baba Sivasankaran (50) entry to the crease, then led to the tide changing in Ceylon’s favor. He put on a match-winning 60 runs together with Rajeev Kumar (35) to put Ceylon back in contention. Some tight, end-overs bowling by Suhail Modak (2/16) and a spate of run-outs (5 run-outs in the innings) meant that Ceylon Cavaliers ended with 130/9 in their 20 overs. David Surjit also bowled a tight spell to give away only 19 runs in his 4 overs.

In reply, Victorious Secret never got going as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals and couldn’t get any partnership going. Suhail Modak (27) was the only batsman who put up any resistance. The Ceylon Bowling unit was on song today with almost all bowlers doing well. Satheesh (4/18) was the star of this unit today and he got good support from Das (2/19) & Faheem (2/5). In the end, Victorious Secret were bowled out for 96 & fell short by 34 runs.

Gaurav Pathak & Maneesh Tripathi with help from Pallav & Aaresh power TKCC Royals into JCA T20 playoffs

JCA JCA T20, League News, Menara CC, TKCC

In the crucial 2nd game of the day, Menara Devils won the toss and chose to bat first against TKCC Royals. The Menara batsmen came in with a very aggressive mind-set but a very good burst of fast, short-pitched bowling by Aaresh (3/28) had them reeling, with their top 3 big guns succumbing early to a combination of their own aggression & the bowling. A lot of Wides & a few shots by Vishav (19) helped Menara recover but Maneesh Tripathi (3/20) continued his great run with the ball to have Menara on the ropes at 73/6 after 10 overs. It took a fighting knock by Deepak Khullar (28) to help Menara reach a fightable score of 129 all out.

Despite losing Neeraj early, Gaurav Pathak (49) got TKCC Royals off to a blistering start. He played out the good balls but took full toll of the bad ones and by the time he got out, his side was well on-course at 75/2 at the half-way mark. He was given good support by Maneesh Tripathi at the other end. Some good wicket-keeping by Deepak & bowling by Mohit Keshwani (2/33) triggered a mini-collapse, but a mature knock of 37 not out by Pallav Malhotra ensured TKCC Royals win comfortably by 6 wickets & with more than 3 overs to spare.

A mature 43 by Aman Singh & some tight bowling by Marten Eddy & Jagdeep help Jaguar CC fight-off a resilient DKI Tigers to confirm their top position in the pool

JCA Chairos Tigers, Jaguar CC, JCA T20, League News

DKI Tigers won the toss and elected to bowl first in a must-win game for them. After the early loss of Warwick, Aman Singh (43) & Malik Thariani (21) batted sensibly & through some hard running between the wickets took the score to a well-placed 70/2 after 10 overs with Malik being dismissed off the last ball before drinks. After drinks as Jaguar CC tried to up the run-rate, some very good bowling by Ridho Aulia (3/29) & Ardan (2/28) ensured the Tigers picked up wickets regularly & restricted Jaguar CC to 146-7 in 20 overs.

In reply DKI batted solidly but couldn’t force the pace well enough and at the half way stage they were 55-2 and facing a stiff chase of 92 more needed off 10 overs. Agi Saptiazi (22) and Ridwan Adwin (27) picked up the pace & batted well to keep the Tigers in the hunt but in the end the run rate required was way too much and they finished with 134-6. Marten Eddy was superb with 2/18 & Jagdeep also continued to caused problems with 1/21.

With one more spot left for the play-offs, the game between TKCC Royals & Menara Devils next week, assumes great significance as the winner would then join Jaguar CC, Victorious Secret & Emerio Dragons in the play-offs.

Vinayak Kurtkoti & Anji help take Emerio Dragons to the play-offs with a good win over Senayan CC

JCA Emerio CC, JCA T20, League News, Senayan CC

The match began with the teams evenly poised at 12 points and needing a win to seal a spot in the play-offs. Emerio Dragons won the toss and chose to bat. Senayan Lions bowlers, Raj and Hussein, kept a tight leash on the proceedings while picking up the key wicket of Dwarakanath Naidu who holed out to deep midwicket. Ajay 35 (44) and Govind ensured no further damage was done and kept scoring at a steady rate to reach 60/1 at the half-way stage. Angga Lucky’s (4/32) introduction & the desire by the Dragons to up the run-rate, saw a flurry of wickets. Maneesh Dubey (21) continued his good run & his quickfire knock helped Emerio end up at 125/9 which would seem to be a defendable score on a thick GMIS outfield. Ashit 2/17 & Manicavasagan 2/35 were the other bowling performers for the Lions.

Senayan Lions openers, Muhaddis (31) and Hussein, started off briskly scoring 37 from the first 3 overs. The introduction of Kartik (1/6 off 3 overs) put a stop to the run-flow as Emerio clawed their way back by picking up the openers. Sujay played a good supporting hand and Emerio managed to keep Senayan to 67-2 by the 10-over break. After the break, Prem (19) & Ramdoni stepped up the gas and the Lions looked in control of the chase. But Anji (3/16) and Ajay (2/12) shared an excellent bowling partnership to break up Senayan’s middle order and push the asking rate to above 10 by the 16th over. By the end of the match, Senayan could only manage 105/8 in their allotted overs thus handing Emerio the game by 20 runs.

Rajeev Rajeswaran bought all his experience to bear in an all-round performance that took Victorious Secret into the semi-finals

JCA Emerio CC, JCA T20, League News

Two different style wins saw the pool leaders Jaguar CC & Victorious Secret confirm their play-off places by ensuring they top their respective pools. An unbelieveable blitzkrieg by Sasikumar saw Jaguar CC beat defending champions TKCC Royals in a high-scoring game while Rajeev’s all-round act helped Victorious Secret comfortably beat Emerio Dragons in a low-scorer.

Victorious Secret lost their captain William early and when the in-form Kiruba also fell, they were in a spot of bother. Rajeev Rajeswaran (36) and Viraj Bhammar (36) consolidated the innings and with the help of some lusty hitting by David Singha (24) made sure that Victorious Secret reached 128/7 in their 20 overs and what looked like a par score on a heavy outfield. Manish Dubey with 2/13 & Sujay with a economical spell were the key bowlers for Emerio Dragons.

In reply, Emerio never got going as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals and couldn’t string together a partnership. Kirubasankar made up for his batting by some beautiful, loopy off-spin (2/20) and also in the field with 4 dismissals. Rajeev, then rounded off a great day for him with a clever spell where he mixed the pace and trajectory of his deliveries to scalp 3/20 and emerge the Man of the match. The birthday boy Govind Sodani with 26 & Nitin with 21 offered the sole resistance from Emerio and despite a fighting last wicket partnership, Emerio fell short by 19 runs, being bowled out for 109.

Sasikumar blitzes Jaguar CC into the semi-finals with a breath-taking 90 not out of 44 balls with 10 Sixes

JCA Jaguar CC, JCA T20, League News, TKCC

A thick outfield and a low-scoring first game prompted Jaguar CC to field first after winning the toss. Sasikumar started off the proceedings with a fiery spell of fast, short-of-length bowling which had both the openers hopping around and saw a few tough-chances going abegging. Maneesh Tripathi eventually fell, trying to force the pace. That brought Mukesh (27) to the crease, who partnered well with Gaurav Pathak (36) as they took TKCC Royals to a good score of 72/1 after 10 overs. The entry of Jagdeep (2/15) got the much needed break-through. Rehan, the leggie, then came on and bowled a beautiful spell (2/24) as he also put pressure on the run-rate.

Pallav (36) then decided to up the run rate and went after Corbon, making him bleed 31 runs in one over including a beautiful flat six over cover. At this point, TKCC Royals looked good to be setting a huge target. But Rehan’s wicket of Pallav, changed the tide and a few tight end overs, meant TKCC Royals set a challenging, but not impossible target of 158 as they reached 157/6 in their 20 overs.

The Jaguar openers found the going tough as well, but a lot of wides kept them still in the hunt. Corbon’s dismissal of a direct-hit runout by Poonam, put Jaguar under further pressure. Sunil Samtani (16) got a few boundaries but fell soon and at the half-way stage, Jaguar CC were well behind the asking rate having reached just 53. The asking rate of more than 10 an over needed a special innings and that is exactly what Sridhar Sasikumar provided. A very special innings of 90 not out in just 44 balls with 10 sixes was his way to celebrate his impending father-hood. Meanwhile Maneesh Tripathi (3/32) was bowling beautifully and pegging away at the other end with wickets and despite some creative field-sets, even he couldn’t stop Sasi’s blitzkrieg who finished the innings in style with 2 consecutive sixes as Jaguars reached the target with 5 wickets and 3 balls to spare.

Harish Tiwari’s all-round act helps Menara Devils demolish DKI Tigers by 10 wickets and 11 overs to spare

JCA Chairos Tigers, JCA T20, League News, Menara CC

Harish Tiwari, who captains the Menara Devils team once again demonstrated why he is topping the charts for the Most Valuable Player awards at the half way stage of the JCA T20 league, when he came up with yet another stellar performance with the bat, ball and on the field to help his side demolish the Indonesian development team, DKI Tigers by a whopping 10 wickets.

At the GMIS grounds on Sunday afternoon, opening the batting in the company of veteran Subhash Modgil, the pair took every bowler apart as they made light work of the small target of 91 runs set by DKI, and reached the score in only 8.1 overs without losing any wickets. Needing to desperately improve Menara’s net run rate, Harish Tiwari led the way from the very first over as the pair plundered 18 runs. Enjoying an early reprieve, Harish made DKI Tigers pay for it dearly as he remained unbeaten on 54 runs off just 24 balls, in an innings that was studded with 5 cleanly hit sixes and 4 boundaries. Subhash ensured that he provided able support remaining unbeaten on a well-made 26 runs off 27 balls, which included two sweetly timed sixes, showing glimpses of the demolition man that he was in his time.

Earlier, winning the toss and batting first, on a ground where the conditions made run scoring laborious, DKI found the going tough as Menara bowlers kept them on a tight leash with some accurate bowling and ground fielding. Satish Rani led the bowling with 4 overs of innocuous spin returning with figures of 2/15, while Neetesh Pansare, Mohit Keswani, Pradeep Patnaik and Harish chipped in with a wicket each to restrict DKI to just 90/9 in 20 overs. Harish, who is hard to be kept away from the action assisted in 3 run-outs as well and for his all-round performance, deservedly winning the man-of-the-match award. For DKI, Sang top scored with 16 runs, while Aditya, Ardan, Amin and Riski chipped in with double digit scores.

Manick bowls a fabulous last over to help Senayan CC beat Ceylon Cavaliers in a low scoring thriller

JCA Ceylon CC, JCA T20, League News, Senayan CC

The second game between Senayan CC & Ceylon Cavaliers was a low-scoring thriller. Satheesh’s 2 wickets had Senayan CC in some bother early on after they chose to bat first. They consolidated to move to  44/3 in the first 10 overs. Despite Parag’s 24, Senayan CC could only muster 97/8 in their 20 overs. Satheesh bowled a splendid spell for 3/9 and he was helped by Rajeev 2/20 & Usman Afridi 1/15. Going into the break, Ceylon Cavaliers would have felt the more confident side having restricted Senayan CC to less than 100.

The young Indonesian rising star, Gema Fajar had other ideas and his brilliant 2/14 in 4 overs meant that the Cavaliers had a very poor start, reaching only 29/2 in their 10 overs. Vimal (40) & Sekar (18) then drove a handsome fightback by Ceylon and despite a fabulous 3/16 by Lucky, Ceylon had the match well under control and needed 6 to win off the last over with wickets in hand. Enter, Manick, who bowled a fantastic last over, taking 3 wickets and conceding only 3 runs to ensure Ceylon Cavaliers were bowled out for 95 runs & Senayan CC won this exciting low-scorer by 2 runs.

Also, some commendable sportspmanship shown by Senayan CC in permitting Dihan to bat despite his joining the game very late & much later than the rules permit.

Good contributions by Harish, Neetesh, Mohit, Mayank & Keyur help Menara Devils prevail over Jaguar CC in a tight, rain-shortened game

JCA Jaguar CC, JCA T20, League News, Mavecrics CC, Menara CC

In the 4th game, Rain played bit of a spoil-sport as it interrupted what was building up to be a thriller. Harish Tiwari 29(16) with support from Taimur Khan 14(21) got Menara Devils off to a good start after they chose to bat first. Some superb bowling by Marten Eddy (4/13) with good support from Ansar Subramanian (2/19) & Corbon Loughnan (2/26) had Jaguar CC fighting back, but a fighting knock from Neetesh Pansare (21/18 balls) helped Menara Devils finish at 125/9. Sunil Samtani’s 25 (25 balls) helped Jaguar get to a par score of 68/3 after 10 overs, but then some tight bowling by Mohit (2/13), Mayank (2/21) & Keyur (3 overs for just 10 runs) and some very good fielding leading to 3 run-outs left Jaguar CC wobbling, but still in the hunt at 91/7 at the end of 16 overs, when unrelenting rain made no more play possible & Menara Devils emerged victors on account of a better run-rate.

Emerio Dragons chose to bat first against Ceylon Cavaliers in the first game on Sunday and they needed their star player Maneesh Dubey (31 of just 19 balls) to really step on the accelerator after Govind Sodani (36 of 45 balls) had given them a solid platform. Emerio ended their innings on a sub-par 128/5 in their 20 overs. Faheem (1/19) & Mufasil (1/22) were the main bowlers for Ceylon. Maneesh, then returned to shine with the ball as well and his 2/10 along with a fabulous 3/7 by Jegan and a tight 2/9 by Vinayak Kurtkoti, ensured that Ceylon Cavaliers were bundled out for a paltry 62 in 16.3 overs. Mufasil (23) provided the sole resistance for Ceylon.

Rajeev’s 4 wicket haul & good knocks by Kiruba & William guide Victorious Secret to a comfortable win over Senayan CC

After that dramatic upset of the defending champions, the 2nd game of the day had also promised to be an intense one with the pool toppers, Victorious Secret (VS) taking on Senayan CC who also had several Indonesian young players. VS won the toss and elected to bat. They put up an above par total of 153/7 on the board due to some sensible batting by Kirubasankar (38) and some lofty hitting by William Noronha (31). Laxmi Nagesh (3/32) & Mehdi (2wkts) were the wicket takers for Senayan CC. In reply, Senayan started cautiously & were still in the hunt at 64/0 after 10 overs, though a required run rate of 9 plus did look daunting. Their job was made impossible due to an extraordinary bowling by Rajeev Rajeswaran (4/15) & good support by Viplow Singh (2/20). Some late hitting by Hussein (40) & Muhaddis (24) was good to watch but never going to be enough as Senayan finished on 133/6 in 20 overs to lose by 20 runs.

However, the defending champions, TKCC Royals fought back well through Sakthi 4/13 & Justin 2/8 to restrict the Tigers to what looked like a below-par score of 99 all-out in 20 0vers. In reply, TKCC Royals looked well on course when Neeraj 27* had taken them to 47/2 after 10 overs. Therafter, Viraj Bhammar 97 not out (off 61 balls) and Ben Burgess shared a 139 run second wicket partnership before Ben was finally dismissed in the last over for 44 runs (33). Viraj couldn’t get the 3 more runs needed to get the first ton of the season & remained not out on 97. Victorious Secret reached a strong 170/2 in 20 overs and would have fancied their chances off a win but the rain-gods had other ideas.

Pallav Malhotra’s superb 85 helps TKCC Royals thrash Menara Devils by 67 runs at Cibubur on Sunday

The 3rd game saw TKCC Royals facing off against Menara Devils on Sunday. Neeraj Chaddha (25) & Pallav Malhotra (85) got TKCC off to a flying start reaching 83/1 after 10 overs. Sakti & Rakesh Gowda (26no) then partnered with Pallav to take TKCC to the season’s highest score of 194/7 in 20 overs. Menara bowlers, other than Harish Tiwari (3/27) & Sushant (2/23), either bowled too full or too short and fed the opposition with too many hit-me balls, which meant they leaked 75 runs in the Last 6 overs. Chasing 194 was a tough ask and Menara needed an explosive start to remain in the game. Instead, TKCC kept on chipping away with wickets at regular intervals, including a controversial timed out wicket. Only Sushant (36) and Harish Tiwari (26) provided some kind of resistance in an otherwise abject batting performance where Menara Devils could only manage 127/8 in 20 overs, thereby losing the game by 67 runs. Sakti with 3/24 & Aresh with 2/8 were the best bowlers for TKCC Royals.

JCA Emerio CC, JCA T20, League News, Senayan CC

The 2nd game saw Senayan CC take on Emerio Dragons in a Group A clash. A fabulous 87no (in 61 balls) by Dwarakanath Naidu anchored Emerio Dragon’s innings after they were sent in to bat by Senayan CC. However, he didn’t get enough support from the other batsmen which meant that Emerio could only manage a sub-par score of 127/5 in 20 overs. Raj Kapadia continued his good form with yet another top bowling performance of 2/12 in 4 overs. Ahmad Ramdoni (34 not out) & Amar Kapadia (29) got Senayan CC off to a flying start to reach 84/1 after 10 overs. Despite the fall of Amar, Anjar (24 not out) & Ramdoni ensured that Senayan CC got to the target comfortably as they reached 131/5 in 17.2 overs. Anjaneyulu Katta (Anji) was the best bowler from Emerio Dragons with figures of 2/31. Very heartening to see continuing success of the young Indonesian stars.

JCA Chairos Tigers, Jaguar CC, JCA T20, League News

The first game on Saturday had a delayed start due to wet conditions. This also meant that the game had to be shortened to a 10 over per innings game. Jaguar CC batted first after being sent in by DKI Tigers and got off to a brisk start due to Sunil Samtani 20 (of 13 balls) and Corbon Loughnan 34not out (23 balls). Warwick scored a good 17 (15 balls) before retiring to bring out the hitters. Jaguar CC ended with a strong 93-3 off their 10 overs with Ardan (2 overs for 13 runs) and Patrick (1/18) being the best of the bowlers. The Indonesian young tigers from DKI Jakarta put up a valiant fight but fell short by 22 runs. Good, tight bowling by Jagdeep (1/11) and Sunil Samtani (1/12) put them under early pressure. But, DKI Tigers recovered well in the middle overs through Agi (30) and Yeri a quick 17* but then, Jaguar CC fought back through Rehan & Corbon (1/8) restricting DKI Tigers to 71-4 off their 10 overs. Corbon was the Man of the Match.

Attempting to negotiate the pressure, the Senayan batsmen started losing wickets in regular intervals. With the exception of Amar Kapadia (41) none of the other batsmen could offer any resistance as Senayan eventually folded up in the 18th over for 104. Tied on the same number of points along with the Fez Rebels and ChallengersCC, Metro just about made it to the runner-up position by virtue of a better net run rate, even as Fez Rebels made a valiant attempt in the last league game on Sunday to better it.

In the face off against IndoramaCC, the Rebels had to chase down the target of 169 ( Kaushik 61 runs, Dan Thomas 3/38, Marten Eddy 2/28 ) set by the opposition in 17.2 overs to be able to move to the second position. Despite losing its openers early, the Rebels were relentless through the effort of Cameron Knox (41 runs) and Marten Eddy (57 runs). Eki Antaria scored 72* while Jon Baker and Ben Burgess chipped in with useful forties. Rajneesh picked up 2 wickets. In response, KLNWISCI who had already secured an unassailable lead at the top of the points table decided to test the depth of its batting as it reversed the order with non-regulars leading the way. The experiment which did not spare even the role of the captain had Viraj Bhammar at the helm. Pradeep Patnaik’s all-round effort & some calm nerves help Mavecrics CC beat Ceylon CC by 1 run in a last-ball thriller at Cibubur grounds

JCA Ceylon CC, League News, Mavecrics CC, Tata Motors League 2015-16

At the TATA Motors JCA league, in a game that was certainly not for the faint hearted, MavecricsCC overcame some nerve wracking moments in the last 2 overs of its defense of its score of 170 runs, as it defeated CeylonCC by a solitary run, in a Division2 game at Cibubur on Sunday.

With CeylonCC needing 28 runs off the last two overs, it was all heading the Mavecrics way until 15 runs were plundered off the penultimate over by Pulokesh Majumdar, leaving 13 runs to be scored off the last 6 balls. 5 consecutive wide balls and 2 dot balls meant 8 runs were needed off 4 balls. A boundary and a brace made the equation 2 off 2 balls. As Pulokesh heaved wildly off the next, it was down to 2 needed off the last ball. As all Mavecrics fielders zoomed in, Roy held his nerve to bowl straight as Pulokesh’s drive to Mid-on was smartly collected by Keyur Moradia who had the presence of mind to under-arm the ball to the non-strikers’ end, catching the batsman short of the crease.

Earlier opting to bat first, Mavecrics put up a par score of 170/9 in 35 overs. Pradeep Patnaik top scored with 31 runs while Keyur chipped in with 27 runs. Riaz Ur Rahman (Faheem) was impressive with the ball as he took 4/27. Kesavadas supported with 2/27.

In response, Ceylon started disastrously as it lost its openers cheaply. Baba Sivasankaran then steadied the ship with an aggressive half century (51 runs) before Mavecrics pulled things back to have them reeling at 110/6 at one stage. However the arrival of Pulokesh to the crease meant it was not all over until the last ball as he stood in defiance with an impressive 48 runs. For Mavecrics Pradeep (3/46) and Mayank Puri (2/23) did the most damage, even as Satish extracted uncomfortable bounce with his off spin.

The joyous celebration that erupted soon after demonstrated how relieved Mavecrics were to snatch this victory even as the Ceylon players came out in applause for a game of cricket that was so well played by both teams.

GMIS started with the calmness that appears before the storm as they reached 35/1 after 12 overs. Nothing prepared TKCC for the onslaught that followed thereafter as Naresh Gupta bludgeoned 80 runs off just 27 balls, and in the company of Pratyush Chaturvedi ( 70 not-out off 35 balls ) finished the game in the 32nd over. Such was the speed of this partnership that before TKCC could blink an eye, it was game, set and match GMIS.

Prem & Amar’s unbeaten partnership sees Senayan CC slide home to a 9 wicket win on better run-rate after rain interrupted their game against WPP India XI

JCA League News, Senayan CC, Tata Motors League 2015-16, WPP India XI

Calculators played a role again as SenayanCC defeated WPP IndiaXI by 9 wickets in a rain affected match by virtue of a better run rate, at Cibubur. Put into bat by stand-in skipper Prakash, WPP were kept on a tight leash in the first session. A fine partnership between Vasudevan (73 runs) and Arun Rajain (41 runs) helped balance the second session before SenayanCC came back strongly in the third session to have WPP all out for 182 runs. Shubo Sarkar was the pick of the bowlers with 3/36 while Amar Kapadia and Jibu Chacko took 2 wickets each.

Keeping an eye on the heavens, Senayan started its chase disastrously when it lost its opener in the very first over and a freak injury to its number 3 batsmen meant the score read 1/1. With the required target score at each over being flashed on the score board, Amar Kapadia ( 41*) and Prem Subramanian (51*) ensured they were always ahead of the run rate, as the heavens opened up in the 21st over with the score on 113/1. Being ahead by 10 runs and with no further play possible Senayan were declared winners by 9 wickets.

Taimur’s destructive 6-for and Mahesh’s fabulous 68 help Menara CC beat both the rain & Emerio CC at GMIS grounds

JCA Emerio CC, League News, Menara CC, Tata Motors League 2015-16

In a Division 1 encounter on Sunday, MenaraCC thrashed EmerioCC a by a whopping 144 runs. Boldly opting to bat first, Menara reached 279/5 in 35 overs. Building on a good opening partnership, Menara continued to keep up the momentum through its opener Taimur Khan (42 runs) and John Dulip (56 runs off 37 balls). At 166/3 after 24 overs, the final flourish came in the form of Mahesh Thadani, who showed no signs of his brief hiatus from the game, as he remained unbeaten on 68 runs off 55 balls, and skipper Harish Tiwari, who scored 45 runs off just 21 balls. That partnership of 93 runs which came off only 51 balls ensured that EmerioCC had a mountain to climb while chasing.

Emerio’s Dilip Udayashankar came out with all guns blazing as he took the attack to the opposition. With rain clouds approaching in the distance, Dilip scored 55 off just 29 balls that threatened to put Emerio ahead of the required run rate at the 15 over stage, the minimum number of overs that had to be bowled to get a result should it come to a rain stoppage. However his dismissal in the 9th over brought the calculators into play as Menara began to intelligently maneuver its resources to keep Emerio under the required run rate after every over. Aggressive captaincy, intelligent field placements and smart execution of plans led by Taimur Khan (6/36) and Harish Tiwari (4/38) ensured Emerio’s last wicket fell in the 19th over in perfect symphony with the arrival of torrential downpour as MenaraCC signed off their last game of this season with a massive win.

Meanwhile at the same venue on Sunday, Metro Indians defeated CeylonCC by 48 runs, thereby giving itself a bright chance of finishing amongst the top 2 in division 2, if other results go in their favor. Going into what was a “must-win” game for Metro to stay in the hunt, Metro Indians’ skipper, Prabhu Kaliraj came to the fore as he scored an aggressive 85 runs. Opening the innings, Prabhu, who almost carried his bat through before he was run out of the penultimate ball of the innings and his partnership with their leading run scorer Kirubasankar, (48 runs), helped Metro finish on 185/5 in 35 overs. CeylonCC started the chase well as they reached 71/1 in 12 overs. However the introduction of spin paid immediate dividends as Metro claimed the wickets of the well set Gaurav Kapoor and Dihan Silva. It was a procession of sorts thereafter as Ceylon was all out for 137 runs, short by 48 runs. Kirubasankar (3/18) and John Anthony (3/31) proved that spinners ruled the roost at Cibubur this weekend. Rajeev’s patient 50 & good performances by Navin Param and Rajneesh help KLN WISCI beat Senayan CC comprehensively by 60 runs

JCA League News, Senayan CC, Tata Motors League 2015-16, WISCI Wanderers

Defending champions KLNWISCI secured its 11th consecutive victory in the TATA Motors JCA League when it defeated SenayanCC by 60 runs on Saturday at the Cibubur grounds, consolidating its position at the top of the pack in Division 1.

Having been quite successful in chasing and the possibility of rains in the afternoon, SenayanCC had no hesitation in asking WISCI to take first strike upon winning the toss. WISCI started cautiously in typical fashion as it reached 69/1 after 12 overs. Overnight rains and a wet outfield meant several Senayan fielders had butter fingers as a number of catches went down due to the slippery ball. Despite that, WISCI were restricted to 121/3 after 24 overs. However with wickets in hand, and an outfield that was drying up, a late order flourish from Dave Holme (28 runs) and skipper William Noronha (19 runs) pushed the score along to 214/7 in 35 overs. Earlier Rajeev Rajeswaran top scored with an impressive 50, with useful contributions from Viraj Bhammar (28), Navin Param (24) and Gamantika (21) while Anjar Tadarus and Ashit Mehta took 2/28 and 2/37 respectively for SenayanCC.

Chasing an above par score at this venue, Senayan were constricted by the near all-spin attack of WISCI as the spinners bowled in tandem for almost the entire innings. With no pace off the ball to work with, Senayan lost wickets at regular intervals to be all out for 155 runs in 34.5 overs. Ahmad Ramdhoni seemed to be the only batsman able to negotiate the turning ball as he top scored with 42 runs while Amrithanand supported with 28 runs. For WISCI, Rajneesh Vasudeva (3/22) and Navin Param (2/19) did the most damage with the ball.

Electing to bat first, aided by Vimal Nair’s 24 runs and Dhanashekaran’s 28runs at the top of the order and a late flourish by Santhosh Kumar’s 43 runs (off 34 balls), the Challengers finished with 203 all-out in the 33rd over. The Rebel’s bowling effort that had a magnanimous offering of Wide balls, was led by Corbon Laughnan and Steve Barber who finished with identical figures of 3/33. In response, Fez Rebels started well as they reached 70/1 at the fall of Corbon’s wicket for a well-made 32 runs. However his dismissal allowed Vimal Nair to spin a web around the Rebel’s batsmen who in an attempt to clear the boundary once too many times, collapsed to 82/6 with Vimal taking 5/35. The highlight of his bowling being the impressive support he received on the field with the Challengers taking every catch that came their way including 2 smart pouches each in the outfield by Srinivas and Danashekar. Despite Dan Thomas’ 18 runs, the Rebels were eventually all-out for 133 runs in the 30th over.

In a TATA motors JCA League Division 1 game at Purwakarta on Sunday, a pugnacious yet fluent innings of 122 runs by Ksitij knocked the wind out of MenaraCC’s sails as TKCC won by a whopping margin of 139 runs. The innings of Kshitij which came off just 83 balls and laced with 9 boundaries and 6 Sixes ensured that TKCC had the momentum with them going into the innings break. Starting off with two consecutive boundaries off the first two balls he played, Kshitij tore into Menara’s depleted bowling attack, helping TKCC run up a formidable score of 265/5 in 35 overs. The innings of Kshitij was so domineering that despite a brilliant piece of fielding which caught him short of the crease, the stage was set for the other batsmen to continue the leather hunt as skipper Malik Thariani and Maneesh helped themselves to quick thirties.

In response, Menara started the chase in right earnest as openers Harish Tiwari ( 25 off 13 balls ) and Taimur Khan ( 21 runs) mixed caution with aggression. With Subhash Modgil batting at number 3 chipping in with 27 runs, Menara reached 69/1 in 10 overs. However the target of 266 was too big a mountain to climb as Menara catapulted to be all-out for 126 runs. Vishal Garg was impressive with the ball to claim his best bowling figures of this season with 5/18.

Riski Sanjaya’s 43 & Angga Lucky’s 4/34 helped the Indonesian boys of Chairos Tigers chalk up another big, 79 run win over Mavecrics CC

JCA Chairos Tigers, League News, Mavecrics CC, Tata Motors League 2015-16

At Cibubur, on Saturday, RI’s Chairos Tigers defeated MavecricsCC by 79 runs. Batting first, the Tigers reached 188/6 in 35 overs. Riski Sanjaya top scored with 43 runs while Aditya Gustama and Fiskal Sabara chipped in with 22 runs each. Roy took 3/41 off his 7 overs. Chasing a target of 189 which by no means is insurmountable, the Mavecrics found the going tough as the Tigers kept a stranglehold on things. Spearheaded by Angga Lucky (4/34) and Juni Aryadi (2/24) the Tigers reduced Mavecrics to 34/7 after 12 overs. But for the plucky partnership of 75 runs between Samir Sharma (50 runs) and Hetal Patel (16 runs) that helped restore some credibility to the score, the Mavecrics could have been shot out for well below the 109 runs they scored eventually.

Corbon’s 4/25 & Christian’s quick 35 help Fez Rebels prevail over Metro Indians on better run-rate in a rain-shortened game at Cibubur

JCA Fez Rebels, League News, Metro Indians CC, Tata Motors League 2015-16

Meanwhile in another game at Cibubur, the rain gods did have a part to play as Fez Rebels secured full points from the game when they defeated Metro Indians, by virtue of comfortably being ahead of the required run-rate when play was called off due to heavy downpour. Bating first, Metro was looking good after 16 overs, reaching 71/1, thanks largely to Prabhu Kaliraj who scored an aggressive 43 runs. His departure and a rare failure by its batting mainstay Kirubasankar allowed the Rebels to claw their way back in as they claimed back to back wickets to have Metro reeling at 128/8. Aided by Sabu Joy’s 20 runs, the tail wagged a little longer before Metro was all out for 152 runs. Corbon Loughnan was the wrecker-in-chief with his 4/25 supported brilliantly by OP Rajesh’s spell of 2/11 off 5.3 overs.

In response, the Rebels started cautiously reaching 76/3 after 14 overs, which saw the entry of Christian Hirst. 18 balls and 36 runs later, Kiruba held a good catch under the trees to send back Hirst. With the Rebels comfortably placed at 104/4, the heavens opened up leading to a stoppage of play. Metro was keen on getting on with the action to give themselves a chance, as it became a game of hide and seek with the rains before play was finally called off after 23.3 overs, and Rebels on 125/6 well ahead of the required run rate to be declared Winners. Warwick Peters scored 19 runs for the Rebels, while Kirubasankar (4/26) soldiered on with the ball before the rain gods decided to have the final say.

Thanks to Gaurang & Dhiraj from WPP India XI for umpiring the game and very efficiently managing the rain-situation.

Viraj Bhammar’s unbeaten 83 helps KLN WISCI to a huge 9 wicket win over GMIS CC at the GMIS grounds on Sunday

JCA GMIS CC, League News, Tata Motors League 2015-16, WISCI Wanderers

The KLN WISCI juggernaut continued to roll on its merry way, as the defending champions notched up their 10th victory in the TATA Motors JCA league, when it steamrolled GMIS into submission by 9 wickets in a Division 1 encounter on Sunday.

Chasing a below par score of 144 runs to win, WISCI cantered home losing just one wicket with the best part of 14 overs unutilized.

With rain clouds looming large in the distance, WISCI’s leading run scorer Viraj Bhammar opening the batting in the company of Aman Singh (22 runs ) got the team off to a flyer. While remaining unbeaten on a well made 83 runs, Bhammar scored the winning runs with All-rounder Sohail Modak remaining not out at the other end with a quick-fire 22 runs.

Earlier being asked to bat first upon losing the toss, GMIS was rocked early on as they were reduced to 10/3. Operating without the services of its premier strike bowler Deepak Singh, WISCI lead by its skipper William Noronha made early inroads including taking the key wicket of its star batsman Pratyush Chaturvedi. Benefitting from two reprieves, hard hitting batsman Naresh Gupta made WISCI pay for it, as he put on a fine 95 run partnership for the 4th wicket along with young all-rounder Karan Tiwari (23 runs) with Naresh scoring the bulk of it. William, the bowler to suffer on both occasions had the last laugh when he had Naresh caught at Square leg for 61 runs after which it was a procession of sorts as one GMIS batsman after the other made brief appearances at the wicket before being back in the pavilion. William’s 3/42 and Rajneesh’s 2/12 ensured GMIS were all out for 144 runs. Despite Naresh’s onslaught which landed a few balls outside the park in typical fashion and the time lost in retrieving them, WISCI’s brisk response with the bat ensured that the game was well and truly dusted before the rain clouds arrived at the scene.
