On Saturday, Emerio CC dented Ceylon CC’s chances of a top 2 finish in Division 2 with a thrilling 1 wicket win. Ceylon CC were off to a flying start thanks to Mufasil after they won the toss and elected to bat first. Vishal Hirgude, playing in his first JCA match, then changed the course of the game by claiming 3 quick wickets. Gorla Satyanarayana & Raunak Kapoor also chipped in with 3 wickets apiece and soon, Ceylon were struggling at 106 for 8. Shubham Patni batted well to take his team to a defendable score of 142.
Hasmathullah Hussaini bowled very well to reduce Emerio CC to 65 for 6 and the match seemed well in the grasp of Ceylon. But the debutante, Vishal Hirgude, chose to make his mark early in his JCA career with a mature knock and great support by Gorla Satyanarayana & skipper Ahmad Abbas Khan revived Emerio’s hopes. Shubham Patni struck 2 crucial blows and 7 runs were needed with just 1 wicket in hand, but the Emerio batsmen held on to win the thriller.
