Challengers CC, led by an inspired bowling performance by Vimal Mohan, upset Senayan CC and in the process handed WISCI an unassailable lead atop of the Division 1 table. Senayan CC needed to win both their remaining games and also hope for WISCI slipping-up in their last game, in order to have any chance of winning this year’s league. But the loss to Challengers upset all these calculations leaving them fighting for the 2ndspot.
Sunil Samtani & Srinivasan Govindraj blasted away while wickets tumbled around them to set up a competitive total for their bowlers to defend. The Senayan bowling was patchy and profligate when it came to extras with 29 wides being bowled in a T20 game.
The target of 143, though competitive, should have been chaseable, but Durai Mallikarjun struck early having Viraj LBW for a golden duck. Faisal Hashmi then stepped up for Senayan, anchoring one end beautifully as he took his side to 97 for 4 in the 15thover but then he was forced to retire due to cramps. That changed the rhythm of the game and Vimal Jay Mohan capitalized to run through the remaining Senayan batting order including a hat-trick as Senayan lost 6 wickets for just 10 runs and collapsed to 107 all out.
