The action in the GMIS JCA league was stepped up several notches as Naresh Gupta cracked a fifty ball ton to give his side WISCI Wanderers a big win. Comfortable wins were also recorded by Yadavas Chairos Tigers & Indorama CC in this weekend’s action.

The WISCI batting was in full flow on Sunday in their 35 overs game against WPP India XI. WPP India XI would have been pumped with the early wicket of Zahir, but that excitement was short-lived as they were put to the pump by a rampaging batting display. Naresh ‘Gayle’ Gupta seemed to take a liking to the lush green outfield, and in an effort to avoid damaging it, he took to the aerial route as he bludgeoned 15 sixes, most of it in the cow corner area. He brought up his ton off just 50 balls in an over where he hit four consecutive 6s.

While he was bludgeoning the attack, Rajeev Rajeswaran initially & then, Vinayak Sasitharan were gracefully scything the bowling at the other end with some lovely shots. Suhail also contributed with some enterprising shots as WISCI ended at a mammoth 295 runs in their 35 overs.

In order for WPP India XI to chase down this huge score, Dwarakanath Naidu needed to click, and WISCI seemed to be in a mood to oblige as they dropped 4 catches off him, but eventually his luck ran out as the young, Danilson Hawoe, was fantastic in his opening spell. Vipin Chawla also chipped in with crucial wickets and an early finish was looking on the cards. The JCA treasurer Dhiraj Nagpal, however put a big price on his wicket as he frustrated WISCI in a 40 run stand, till the inevitable victory happened in the 33rdover.

This game was also the last match for Bob Plath who has been a big supporter of cricket in JCA. We wish him all the best in his future endeavours.
