Former New Zealand fast bowler and now a very popular cricket commentator, Danny Morrison, was the chief guest at Jakarta Cricket Association’s annual JCA Gala Dinner held on 9th November at Hotel LeMeridien. Danny Morrison spoke about the importance of both vision & resilience in the pursuit of success in sport and shared several anecdotes from his own life to illustrate the point.

Vision & resilience were also key themes of the season gone by which saw history being created with Yadavas Chairos Tigers becoming the first fully Indonesian team to win the league. Their success marked the culmination of a long journey, one that started with a vision for the development of cricket in the country. Several volunteers and well-wishers joined this journey at various points to keep the efforts constantly moving forward and it is this passion & resilience that bore fruit this season.

Sachin Gopalan, a 3 term JCA president, who was a key player in this journey through contributions both financially and through wisdom & passion, was rewarded with the JCA Lifetime Achievement award. Avakash Lohia, who also a 3 term JCA president and a long- time supporter and contributor to the cause of cricket development in Indonesia was also rewarded with the JCA Lifetime Achievement award.

The JCA also recognized and rewarded Ni Made Putri Suwandewi for the extraordinary honour of being selected to the ICC Global Women’s Development squad. She joined the squad in training in Australia and got the great opportunity to play against many of the Women’s Big Bash League squads. Her selection also marks the meteoric rise of the Indonesian Women’s team in the ICC rankings where they are currently ranked 22ndout of 55 teams. “We are delighted at the continuous improvement being shown by both the Mens & Womens teams and seek support as we with ICC’s help embark on our next growth journey” said a visibly delighted Abhiram Singh Yadav, Vice Chairman of Persatuan Cricket Indonesia.
