The KLN WISCI juggernaut continued to roll on its merry way, as the defending champions notched up their 10th victory in the TATA Motors JCA league, when it steamrolled GMIS into submission by 9 wickets in a Division 1 encounter on Sunday.

Chasing a below par score of 144 runs to win, WISCI cantered home losing just one wicket with the best part of 14 overs unutilized.

With rain clouds looming large in the distance, WISCI’s leading run scorer Viraj Bhammar opening the batting in the company of Aman Singh (22 runs ) got the team off to a flyer. While remaining unbeaten on a well made 83 runs, Bhammar scored the winning runs with All-rounder Sohail Modak remaining not out at the other end with a quick-fire 22 runs.

Earlier being asked to bat first upon losing the toss, GMIS was rocked early on as they were reduced to 10/3. Operating without the services of its premier strike bowler Deepak Singh, WISCI lead by its skipper William Noronha made early inroads including taking the key wicket of its star batsman Pratyush Chaturvedi. Benefitting from two reprieves, hard hitting batsman Naresh Gupta made WISCI pay for it, as he put on a fine 95 run partnership for the 4th wicket along with young all-rounder Karan Tiwari (23 runs) with Naresh scoring the bulk of it. William, the bowler to suffer on both occasions had the last laugh when he had Naresh caught at Square leg for 61 runs after which it was a procession of sorts as one GMIS batsman after the other made brief appearances at the wicket before being back in the pavilion. William’s 3/42 and Rajneesh’s 2/12 ensured GMIS were all out for 144 runs. Despite Naresh’s onslaught which landed a few balls outside the park in typical fashion and the time lost in retrieving them, WISCI’s brisk response with the bat ensured that the game was well and truly dusted before the rain clouds arrived at the scene.
