In a Division 2 game at GMIS grounds the ChallengersCC signed off this season with a victory over Fez Rebels by 70 runs. Electing to bat first, aided by Vimal Nair’s 24 runs and Dhanashekaran’s 28runs at the top of the order and a late flourish by Santhosh Kumar’s 43 runs (off 34 balls), the Challengers finished with 203 all-out in the 33rd over. The Rebel’s bowling effort that had a magnanimous offering of Wide balls, was led by Corbon Laughnan and Steve Barber who finished with identical figures of 3/33. In response, Fez Rebels started well as they reached 70/1 at the fall of Corbon’s wicket for a well-made 32 runs. However his dismissal allowed Vimal Nair to spin a web around the Rebel’s batsmen who in an attempt to clear the boundary once too many times, collapsed to 82/6 with Vimal taking 5/35. The highlight of his bowling being the impressive support he received on the field with the Challengers taking every catch that came their way including 2 smart pouches each in the outfield by Srinivas and Danashekar. Despite Dan Thomas’ 18 runs, the Rebels were eventually all-out for 133 runs in the 30th over.
