On a long weekend when Jakarta roads were quite empty, there was plenty of action on the Cricket grounds with 5 games of the Texmoda JCA league being played out. Friday’s game between Senayan and Challengers was the most nail biting of them all with Senayan prevailing by a whisker. Challengers won the toss and elected to bat on a rain reduced 33 over game. The ever reliable Ranjan Shankar dominated a 99 run opening partnership with veteran Sunil Samtani and Challengers seemed set on a big score. The advent of Shubho Sarkar into the bowling changed the game and thereafter wickets fell in a procession with Challengers folding up for just 169. Ranjan top scored with 80. Challengers struck back in the very first over with the wicket of Faisal but a steady second wicket partnership between Viraj 31 and Shubho 23 and useful contributions from the middle kept it in hunt. Rakesh Gowda came in and in his usual breezy style hit 47 of just 39 balls to make the target within reach. There was drama in the end with Senayan losing 4 wickets in quick succession but they managed to scrape through in the last over. The good bowling efforts of Sunil and Manik with 3 wickets apiece came to nought.
