Meanwhile at the same venue on Sunday, Metro Indians defeated CeylonCC by 48 runs, thereby giving itself a bright chance of finishing amongst the top 2 in division 2, if other results go in their favor. Going into what was a “must-win” game for Metro to stay in the hunt, Metro Indians’ skipper, Prabhu Kaliraj came to the fore as he scored an aggressive 85 runs. Opening the innings, Prabhu, who almost carried his bat through before he was run out of the penultimate ball of the innings and his partnership with their leading run scorer Kirubasankar, (48 runs), helped Metro finish on 185/5 in 35 overs. CeylonCC started the chase well as they reached 71/1 in 12 overs. However the introduction of spin paid immediate dividends as Metro claimed the wickets of the well set Gaurav Kapoor and Dihan Silva. It was a procession of sorts thereafter as Ceylon was all out for 137 runs, short by 48 runs. Kirubasankar (3/18) and John Anthony (3/31) proved that spinners ruled the roost at Cibubur this weekend. Metro will now need to wait for results of other games to decide who will finish second behind JaguarsCC and with it the promotion to Division 1.
