In a Division 1 fixture at the Cibubur grounds on Sunday, the Senayan Lions, fielding a depleted side in the absence of its regular Indonesian players, who were busy with their commitments to their west Java team in preparations for the PON (National Games) made good use of its available resources, first to put up a competitive score and then to make short work of the Emerio chase.
Being asked to bat first, Senayan, in the absence of its regular openers were jolted at the top when it was reduced to 22 for 3 after 10 overs through some steady bowling of Sujoy (2/25) and Maneesh. However, a partnership of 53 runs between Parag Haldankar 36(80) and Amar Kapadia 12 (26) for the 4th wicket steadied the innings before Kapadia was caught behind off the bowling of Dilip Aradhya. A late order onslaught by Raj Kapadia 20(27) and Ashit Mehta 14(11), gave the lions a respectable score of 152, before the lions were bowled out in the penultimate ball of the last over. Dilip Aradhya stood out for Emerio with figures of 4-32 in his 6.5 overs.
With a below par score to defend, the lions went about their task in regimental fashion as they ran through the Emerio top order. Opening bowlers Raj Kapadia (2-19) and Amit Dabas (2-11), bowling in the right areas and offering no width gave the Lions the perfect start they needed when they reduced Emerio to 22 for 4 in the first 8 overs. Jibu Chacko (2-11) and Shubho Sarkar (2-10) then kept up the pressure on the Emerio batsmen bowling them out for 65 runs in 21.2 overs. Senayan comfortably won by 88 runs.
