Windy conditions helped keep the rain at bay this weekend and also aided in big six hitting as more than 45 hits cleared the fence across 4 games in the Texmoda JCA league.

WISCI prevailed over Jakarta Barbarians in a very close game which saw fortunes of both sides going through ups & downs throughout the game. Riaz Hyder fell early after hitting a few boundaries and this led to a superb 120 run partnership between the young Gema Fajar & the experienced Ben Burgess. Ben, continued his Virat Kohli’esque form as he stroked his way to a unbeaten ton. Vivek Nair hit a few sixes towards the end and the Barbarians would have been happy to put on 222 for 3 in their 35 overs. WISCI’s slower bowlers, Govind Sodani & Aman Singh had done a good job of keeping things tight and preventing a 250 plus total.

In reply, Naresh ‘Gayle’ Gupta got things off to a blazing start for WISCI. Preferring 6s to 4s, he was belting them out of the park at will as his 84 runs helped WISCI raced to 119 of just 15 overs. The wily Ben, accounted for the dangerous Naresh and forced Rajeev & Bob Plath to consolidate, which they did well, but at a slow pace as WISCI needed to get 50 more with 8 overs left. Trying to force the pace, led to 4 quick wickets including 2 in an over to Gema Fajar and Barbarians were back in the game. 30 was needed of the last 5 overs, but too many wides meant that the WISCI tail could manage 6 in an over as they reached the target with 2 balls & 2 wickets to spare.
