In a Division 2 encounter at Purwakarta on Sunday, Metro Indians triumphed over hosts Indorama by 9 runs in a high scoring game. Opting to bat first on a wet wicket, Metro got off to a fine start lead by its opening batsman and inform batsman Kirubu Shankar reaching 78/0 in 12 overs. His innings of 93 runs ( off just 74 balls ) and an innings of 31 runs by Arun Pandi helped Metro reach 242/6. Sakthi chipped in with 29 runs. For Indorama Vinod Verghese did well with the ball taking 2/18, supported by Vishwajit Tripathi (2/45).
Chasing 243 runs to win, Indorama began well with an aggressive opening partnership, led by Arjun Chauhan and Vinod Verghese which saw them reach 95/0 in 12 overs. With Indorama staying in the hunt, it took a fine comeback by Metro in the form of taking crucial wickets of Arjun (55 runs) and Nitin Joshi (44 runs) and an impressive 32nd over bowled by its skipper Prabhu Kaliraj, that saw Indorama being contained to 233/9 in its full quota of 35 overs, thereby falling short of the target by 9 runs. Kiruba Shankar was declared the man of the match for his fine show with the bat and ball (3/37).
